ASPEN-BOUND. Congratulations to ALAN FLETCHER, who joins the Aspen Music Festival and School as president and CEO March 1. Alan is relocating from Pittsburgh, where he’s been a professor and head of the School of Music at Carnegie Mellon U. since 2001. Prior to CMU, Alan spent 16 years at the New England Conservatory, where he was on the faculty and held a number of leadership roles, including provost.

Matthew Bucksbaum, chair of the AMFS board of trustees and head of the search committee, heralded Alan’s appointment: “Alan combines the highest levels of administrative and musical knowledge in one package. He is an accomplished and active composer with a deep knowledge of and passion for classical music, plus he is extremely well respected as a leader in the world of music education. The search committee was unanimously impressed with his knowledge, intelligence, and style. We believe he brings the vision and strength we need to take the Aspen Music Festival and School to the next level, as well as the personal charisma and human touch needed to keep it the Aspen we love so dearly. We are lucky to have found him.” Bravo, Alan!

ALUMNI DAY is Saturday, Feb. 25, with lectures, workshops, campus events, and the Service of Remembrance at 3 p.m in the University Chapel. GAIL DAVIDOW CLOUGH, who died in 2004, will be remembered this year; a PAW memorial for Gail was published July 7, 2004. After the service, the classes of ’76, ’77, ’78, and ’79 will co-host a reception in Chancellor Green. Please stop by if you’re on campus!
